Scenes like this were common in the Algarve until not so very long ago
One day a man was picking olives on the hill opposite us and we invited him over. We showed him the re-roofed ruin and he told us that he lived there when he was a child. He was delighted to see it again. He said he left 27 years ago and that then there were no cars or bikes, just donkeys and the water was brought up from the well in buckets.
We found this picture as a postcard and were astonished to find a blown-up version hanging on the wall on a cafe in the town. They said it was taken in this area and the whole feel of the photo with the vegetation makes us think it was taken not far from Quinta Ventura.
